Cree: Selling technology with technology

Cree is a global leader in manufacturing high-efficiency, high quality LED lighting products, headquartered in the North Carolina’s Research Triangle. They recently built a state-of-the-art sales showroom at their headquarters called the Learn Experience Center. It’s a gorgeous space where clients and VIPs can get up close and personal with the latest and greatest lighting products from Cree. They asked Headfirst if we could help design interfaces for both industry news and a product showcase for their large touchscreen installations. It was an attempt to wow — and woo — clients. It sounded big, exciting and challenging.

My first call was to my creative partner, Tim McCracken at Gin & Tonic Agency. Both of our skill sets would be needed to pull this off. It required deep dives into information architecture, gesture-based HTML5 and javascript, design, messaging, branding, and of course, the user experience. Each one of these considerations was dependent on the other. The client was well-aware of the challenges involved in a project like this, and they were wonderful collaborators in the process. Watch the video below to see what we accomplished.
